Truth is a state of experiencing

You cannot repeat truth, because truth is never constant. Truth is a state of experiencing, and what you can repeat is a static state; therefore it is not the truth.

Truth must be discovered

There is no path to truth. Truth must be discovered, but there is no formula for its discovery. What is formulated is not true. You must set out on the uncharted sea, and the uncharted sea is yourself. You must set out to discover yourself, but not according to any plan or pattern, for then there is no discovery. Discovery brings joy - not the remembered, comparative joy, but joy that is ever new. Self-knowledge is the beginning of wisdom in whose tranquillity and silence there is the immeasurable.

What is formulated is not true

Desire for instruction is a distraction

Even a desire for more instruction is a distraction. Too many explanations without the essence is like an orchard of trees without fruit. Knowing many explanations is not knowing the Truth. Too much conceptualisation has no spiritual benefit. Only the secret treasure benefits the heart. If you want riches, concentrate on this.

Listen and find out

We do not listen. There are too many noises about us; inside us, there is too much talk, too much questioning, too much demanding, too many urges, compulsions. We have so many things and we never listen to any one of them completely, totally, to the very end. And if you would kindly so listen, you will see that, in spite of yourself, the mutation, that emptiness, that transformation, the perception of what is true, comes into being. You don't have to do a thing, because what you do will interfere, because you are greedy, you are envious, you are full of hate, ambition, and all the mischief that thought can make. So if you can listen happily, effortlessly, then perhaps in the quiet, deep, silence you will know what is truth. And it is only that truth that liberates, and nothing else. That is why you must stand completely alone. You cannot listen through another; you cannot see with the eyes of another; you cannot think with the thoughts of others. But yet you listen through others, see through the activities, through the saints, through the dictum of others. So if you can put away all these secondary things, the activities of others, and be simple, quiet, and listen, then you will find out.

Show the unlearned man the truth

A guide, on finding a man who has lost his way, brings him back to the right path. He does not jeer at him. You must show the unlearned man the truth, and you willl see that he will follow. But, so long as you do not show it to him, you should not mock - but rather feel your own incapacity.

To be Nothing

The ending of the self, the "me": to be nothing. The word nothing means "not a thing". Not a thing created by thought. To be nothing; having no image of yourself. But we have a great many images of ourselves. To have no image of any kind, no illusion, to be absolutely nothing. The tree is nothing to itself. It exists. And in its very existence it is the most beautiful thing, like those hills: they exist. They don't become something, because they can't. Like a seed of an apple tree, it is apple; it doesn't try to become the pear, or another fruit - it is. You understand? This is meditation. This is the ending of the search, and truth is.

Devil helps organise the truth

You know there is a story of the Devil and a friend walking along the street. And the friend picks up something from the pavement, looks at it and says: 'I've found the truth. Here it is!' So the Devil replies ''I'll help you to organize it.'' All the world has tried to organize truth and therefore has destroyed it.

Truth is a truth until you organise it

Lao-tzu might say that  truth is a truth until you organise it, and then it becomes a lie. Why? Because the purposes of the organisation begin to take precidence over that with it first attempted to keep in order.
